Public Freezing Actions
Publicly reported or on-chain restrictions affecting token transfers at an address. A freeze does not itself establish guilt; its scope may be limited to particular tokens.
What does it mean?
High-risk category group
Publicly reported or on-chain restrictions affecting token transfers at an address. A freeze does not itself establish guilt; its scope may be limited to particular tokens.
The 14 categories in the AML4Tracker risk methodology, explained with documented examples. The groups below describe that taxonomy; they are not universal legal classifications or the numerical bands of a live report. Availability depends on the report and data provider.
How is this concept used?
Some token issuers can restrict transfers for their own token contracts. A freeze can affect a particular address and token, and its scope or status may change. The stated reason needs its own evidence.

Documented example
Tether: USDT freeze investigation
In November 2023, Tether reported an approximately US$225m USDT freeze involving U.S. investigators. This describes that historical token action, not today’s frozen balance or a conviction of every wallet holder.

Connection to a wallet report
Check the chain, token contract, affected address, transaction or issuer notice and date. Do not infer that every asset at the address is frozen or that a freeze establishes guilt.
A common misconception
A frozen token balance and a frozen blockchain address are not interchangeable descriptions of every asset.
