Illegal Services / Platforms
Services or platforms linked by evidence to activities unlawful under applicable law.
What does it mean?
High-risk category group
Services or platforms linked by evidence to activities unlawful under applicable law.
The 14 categories in the AML4Tracker risk methodology, explained with documented examples. The groups below describe that taxonomy; they are not universal legal classifications or the numerical bands of a live report. Availability depends on the report and data provider.
How is this concept used?
The category needs evidence of the specific unlawful activity and the relevant legal context. Examples can include selling stolen credentials or a documented fraudulent scheme; merely being an online platform is not enough.

OneCoin: Greenwood’s fraud case
In 2023, U.S. DOJ announced Karl Sebastian Greenwood’s 20-year sentence for OneCoin fraud. This is a specific defendant’s court outcome, not a finding that every investor participated in crime.

BitConnect: Arcaro’s fraud case
In 2022, U.S. DOJ announced Glenn Arcaro’s 38-month sentence in the BitConnect fraud case. The decision concerns that defendant; a platform connection alone does not establish an investor’s guilt.

Connection to a wallet report
Read what activity was established, by which source and at what date. A related payment can support further review without identifying every sender as a participant.
A common misconception
A label applied to a platform does not establish the knowledge or guilt of every person connected to it.
