Privacy Protocol
A protocol limiting public disclosure of transaction or user data, potentially using zero-knowledge proofs; privacy use alone is not evidence of crime.
What does it mean?
Medium-risk category group
A protocol limiting public disclosure of transaction or user data, potentially using zero-knowledge proofs; privacy use alone is not evidence of crime.
The 14 categories in the AML4Tracker risk methodology, explained with documented examples. The groups below describe that taxonomy; they are not universal legal classifications or the numerical bands of a live report. Availability depends on the report and data provider.
How is this concept used?
A privacy mechanism may limit which transaction or user details are publicly visible. A zero-knowledge proof can demonstrate a specific statement without revealing all underlying data; it does not establish every fact about the funds.

Documented example
Zcash: shielded transaction verification
Zcash’s official explanation describes verifying shielded transactions with zero-knowledge proofs. This documents a privacy feature, not criminal activity or guaranteed untraceability for every transaction.

RAILGUN: private smart-contract interactions
RAILGUN documents private smart-contract interactions using confidential balances and zk-SNARK proofs. Using that mechanism alone does not establish illicit funds or the owners of connected public addresses.

Connection to a wallet report
Identify what the protocol proves and which details remain hidden. Record limits on tracing instead of treating missing visibility as proof of crime or absence of risk.
A common misconception
Cryptographic validity is not the same as proof of lawful source of funds, and privacy use alone is not evidence of crime.
